The feature of Instagram Live skyrocketed in popularity during the early stages of the pandemic in 2020. However, this trend is here to stay for a while. It's a wonderful platform to set interview-style conversations and engage in realtime with your audience. So what do you need to keep in mind prior to getting started?
1. Find a topic
If you're hosting an IG Live with someone and it's going to be more of an interview style, be sure to share the questions in advance. Although you're creating conversation, it's important for both of you to be on the same page and head in a similar direction that will help engage your followers.
If you're hosting an IG Live on your own, create notes and steps you can easily follow while being filmed.
2. Invest in a tripod or phone stand
Even if you don't plan on doing more IG Live sessions, this is great for recording IG Stories, IGTV, Reels and even taking some pictures!
I personally have a stand with a ring light that makes a HUGE difference visually.
3. Check your analytics
Not sure what time to host your IG Live? Take a look at your analytics and see when you have the most traffic. That said, you should compare it to when your target is online as well. For example, if you know Moms are your target, perhaps think about hosting your IG Live later in the evening when they are freer.
4. Save and Share
Once the Live session is over, be sure to save and share the video in an IGTV series. I always notice engagement skyrockets this way. Plus not everyone who needs the content may be able to see it live.
This is also a wonderful way to collaborate if you have a guest speaker, they can also share it on their IG Stories which brings their network to your page!
5. Promote your Live session like an event
Treat your Live session like an event and promote to build a stronger audience. Try to start promoting the event 5-7 days prior to. This can be done with your IG Stories, Feed or even in your newsletter!

The most important thing to remember is to HAVE FUN! You're going LIVE, it's ok if you make a mistake - that what makes you real, so just keep pushing forward and have fun with everything!
